Flat Pier Caps
Flat Pier Caps
Flat pier caps are a level concrete slab proportioned to cap a brick or block pier with an overhang on all sides. We manufacture 12 sizes, all at 65mm height, ranging from 290×290mm up to 880×880mm, with both square and rectangular options to suit varying pier plan dimensions. All are made to order in precast concrete.
Buying Guide
Where flat caps are appropriate
Flat pier caps are suited to sheltered or part-sheltered locations, interior courtyard or garden walls, and contemporary builds where a minimal profile is specified. They are also the right choice where a flat surface is needed to receive a post, fixture, or gate hinge. In fully exposed positions, consider the Standard Four Weathered Apex cap, which actively drains water rather than relying on the laying bed to provide fall.
Size range: 290×290 to 880×880
Twelve sizes cover the most common pier dimensions. Square options: 290×290, 420×420, 520×520, 615×615, 665×665, 750×750, and 880×880mm. Rectangular options: 400×290, 520×300, 520×410, 625×525, and 760×530mm. The rectangular sizes are particularly useful for piers with a non-square plan, common in 2×1 or 2.5×2 brick pier construction. All at 65mm height.
Specification and installation
Flat pier caps should be bedded in a semi-dry mortar mix with a very slight fall across the top surface to shed water to the front. The 65mm height provides adequate mass for stability without excessive weight on standard mortared piers. A drip groove on the underside soffit is recommended where the cap is exposed to prevailing rain.
